Sandbox Shorts: Pattern Review

This is a sponsored post.  This page may contain affiliate links.

Are you looking for an adorable shorts pattern for your doll?  Then you should check out the Sandbox Shorts by Oh Sew Kat!

I particularly like the flat front; the shorts just look so much more professional with the flat front. Most of the other doll shorts patterns I've seen lacked this detail.

These shorts are an easy sew.  Like the Popsicle Top, the instructions are very well written and include lots of photos.  This pattern is especially awesome because it includes three different styles: Classic, Bermuda, and Wide Leg.  The brown floral shorts that I made are Classic, without pockets.  (Catherine didn't want to cover up the fun flowers, so I didn't.)

While this is a fairly simple pattern, the possibilities are endless!  It's so versatile!  Different trims and different fabrics will give you anything from gym clothes to special occasion wear.

Popsicle Top: Pattern Review

This is a sponsored post.  This page may contain affiliate links.

The Popsicle Top by Oh Sew Kat is the perfect shirt pattern for your doll!  It's a simple tank, so it can be paired with just about anything, plus it can be reversible and it's easy to embellish.  I highly recommend this sewing pattern.

The Popsicle Top is an easy sewing pattern.  The instructions are also very clear and include lots of pictures.  (If you want to just print straightforward instructions there's a page for that too!)  I've been sewing off and on for a while, but I think even someone just learning to sew would be able to make the Popsicle Top.

This is a great project for either fat quarters or the leftovers from other projects.  I used random bits from my scrap bin and I just love how these shirts turned out!  I'm excited though, because now I have a perfect project anytime I fall in love with a fat quarter and just "need" to have it.  (I do need to remember to get some more Velcro, I only had a teeny amount in my stash.  If you're making doll clothes you're going to want some extra on hand too!)

I don't know about you, but whenever I use anything from my scrap bag I am reminded of the original projects.  The above top is made from some scraps from my Fabric Headbands, a dress I cut up for fabric, and some bias tape from the edging of a quilt for Catherine.  It's a walk down memory lane!  (Also pictured are the Sandbox Shorts, also by Oh Sew Kat!, and a little sweater I knitted which is modeled after the In Threes Sweater.)

This top and skirt set is made with some of my my favorite quilting cotton.  I made matching Mommy and Me Easter dresses with it one year.  (Art Gallery has a gorgeous knit fabric that is quite similar that I'd absolutely love to have!)

Buy the Popsicle Top at Craftsy, Etsy, or on the Oh Sew Kat! website.

Crochet Pattern Review: Sunrise Sunday Dress

This is a sponsored post.  This post contains affiliate links.

Doesn't Samantha look lovely in her Sunrise Sunday Dress?  This might be my newest favorite pattern.  I certainly think it's my favorite crochet dress pattern.  It doesn't take much to start crocheting this beautiful dress!  The materials that you'll need are:
  • 250 Yards Fingering Weight Yarn #1
  • Crochet Hook Size: D/3-3.25MM
  • Sharp Needle for sewing and weaving in your loose ends
  • Four 1/2" buttons

This adorable crochet dress has a square neck and short sleeves.  While I made slightly modified dress this pattern also includes written instructions to make it as a top.  Since it is crocheted from the top down it is easy to adjust the length.

I had a little fingering weight yarn left over from a previous project, my light and lacy infinity scarf.  It's a gorgeous hand-dyed coral colorway in a 75% Superwash Merino Wool / 25% Nylon mix.  I've been hoarding this little bit of yarn for a special project.  When I saw the Sunrise Sunday Dress I knew they would complement one another perfectly.  I didn't have quite enough to make it a true dress length, but I love it anyways!

My sweet model showing off the light and lacy scarf

I used some mother of pearl buttons from my stash.  (You can get similar ones on Amazon.)  I think they offer a lovely contrast to the coral yarn.  (Is it just me, or is it near impossible to photograph mother of pearl?)

I highly recommend this pattern. The pattern is very well written, and has helpful photos, which make it easy to follow. There are quite a few steps, so I recommend printing it off so that you can mark exactly where you are for when you need to put it down.  Also, I think that it is important to note that Bailee offers full support on her patterns.  This means that you can always send her an email and she'll help you out!  That is absolutely amazing customer service.

Crochet Pattern Review: The Selena Dress

This is a sponsored post.  It contains affiliate links.

The Selena Dress is an absolutely adorable crochet pattern designed to fit 18 inch dolls, such as my American Girl Samantha.  I think it's a great pattern!

With just a few supplies you'll be able to crochet your doll a beautiful dress.

Here's what you'll need:
I used some of Michael's Loops and Threads Woolike Yarn in Ivory from my stash.  The price is great for fingering weight yarn, especially when it's on sale, but it's an average yarn at best.  For my finishing touches I used buttons from my stash and a little bit of the 24/7 Cotton Yarn in Rose  that I received from Lion Brand for the belt.

This pattern is listed as an intermediate pattern, and I fully agree with that assessment.  There are quite a few crochet skills that you will need under your belt before you begin.  I really love that a chart is included for the beginning rows.  I will admit I goofed the count in the bodice more than once.  (I was watching the Olympics.)  In all honesty, I just forged forward after a few froggings and worked it out.  That is NOT something I recommend doing, but sometimes a girl has to to what a girl has to do, ya know?

I'm loving this All Dolled Up series!  It's been awhile since I when through my Samantha trunk.  (Maybe not as long as one might think for a thirty something year old woman . . . but it had been too long.)  I thought the original Tea Dress white shoes worked really well with the dress that I crocheted.  What do you think?  (Of course, some fun silver sandals like these would be cool too.)
