The Beginning of a Crochet Project: Using Quaere Fibre Yarn

I've been itching to crochet something with a lovely high quality yarn, so when I received this yarn to review from Quaere Fibre I knew that I'd be using my hooks.

It really took me a long time to settle on a project.  At first I couldn't even decide who this project would be for: me, my daughter, my Baby, someone else?  Then I couldn't decide what to make: hat, scarf, cowl, shawl, etc..  Then I couldn't decide on a pattern.  Should I make something testing my skills?  Or something that uses a familiar pattern?  Should I make my own pattern?  (Talk about indecision, right?)

I even started a handful of projects and decided that I didn't like the way they were turning out, so I frogged them.

I finally decided to make an scarf.  (Probably an infinity scarf.)  I am using a simple fan stitch which is repeated row after row.

With the bold color palate that this yarn has I decided that an elaborate pattern would be too much.  I think the color variations are wonderful.  It's so happy and cheerful!  It is almost luxuriously soft.

Have you ever had a skein of yarn that you really wanted to use, but had a difficult time deciding on the perfect project?  What would you make with this yarn?

  1. Love the color combination here. Love the flecks of black and white through it. I can't tell you how many timed I have frogged lately--seems I do more of that than actually making something.

  6. For Christmas I was given a bag of yarn. There was one skein, a nice sage green color, that I fell in love with. I kept it safe for over a year until I figured out what to do with it. I'm using it to make myself a blanket! I'm excited.

  8. I have several single skeins of yarn that were gifted to me ... pricier yarns than I could afford on my own. They are so gorgeous and I don't want to waste them on just any old pattern, so I've tucked them away while waiting for the perfect project to come along. I think I need to just get them out and make a scarf with them ... I wear scarves all the time, so why not make one with these beautiful yarns so I can wear them and not hide them away! Thanks for the push!

  9. Good quality yarn makes a huge difference. The quality and the color of course. I was thinking of knitting something this spring but maybe the crochet also works.

  12. I'm a new knitter, I can't even picture what a colorful skein like this looks like when made into a project. That said, i often have trouble figuring out what project to use my yarns for!

  13. I just travelled to New Zealand where I picked up some fantastic yarn...and now I am stuck and don't know what to make! Complete dilemma. I think a shawl is always a safe bet though - something pretty that you can wear or give away.

  22. I have a few here now that I'm itching to use. A friend got them for me for Christmas. And yes, I am indecisive also when I have something this luxurious to work with! I want to make sure I pick the PERFECT project to make with them! I think your choice of the infinity scarf with the fan stitch is probably perfect for your yarn. Anything to fancy & the intricacy of your stitches would be lost in the busy-ness of the yarn. In this case, you want to showcase the YARN, not the stitches. So I'll bet the fan stitch scarf will be beautiful. Hope you'll post pics for us!

  23. I've really started to like making - and wearing cowls. Now that the weather is changing, I usually have a tough time transitioning from sweaters to just one layer. Cowls really dress up any outfit.
