Movie Madness Gift Card Giveaway (Ends 2/25) US

How often do you go to the movies?  I'm at a stage in my life where I don't have the opportunity to go frequently.  I did get to see The Force Awakens though, which I thought was pretty exciting.

This giveaway will hopefully make it a little easier for you to go to the movies!

WIPS: Sick and Knitting

I've been feeling a bit under the weather these past couple of days.  The kids have been good though, they've been letting me sit on the couch and just be.  I've used some of this extra couch time to start another knitting project. (Of course!  What's one more?)  I've also been looking through the drafts folder of my blog.  I can't believe how many posts there are that only need a slight tweak and then will be ready to be published.  (A lot just need a picture or two.)  Reminds me a lot of my WIPS box . . . hmmm.  There's a lesson in there for me somewhere.

Don't forget to enter the giveaway for crochet hooks and a Happily Hooked subscription!  It ends at the end of January and entries are still pretty low.

How's your week going?

A Crochet Pattern Round Up: Snowflakes

Winter is here!  Since so many of my family and friends are about to face blizzard conditions I thought today would be a great time to share some beautiful crochet snowflake patterns.  (Snowflakes aren't just for Christmas!)  I hope everyone stays safe and warm and gets some extra crochet time this weekend.

1. This Pretty Picot Snowflake Pattern by Petals to Picots really is stunning.

2. This Snowflake by Crochet for You is unique because the center is a piece of cardboard.  I think that this could be a special way to recycle Christmas cards!  What do you think?

3. These Snowflake Coasters, by Charmed by Ewe, while great for Christmas, would also work all winter long.  What color would you use for the center?  Silver? White? Blue?

4. Worsted weight yarn works beautifully for these Snowflakes by Pattern Paradise.

5. I love this Dainty Lace Snowflake.  That center is adorable!

6. Grandma Jennies Snowflake Pattern is yet another beautiful work of art from Petals to Picots.  I love the vintage feel to this particular pattern.

7. One of my absolute favorite crochet snowflake patterns is this one from Red Heart.  I've made it so many times!  I especially like it in crochet thread. Pictured is one that I made years ago.

Do you have a favorite crochet snowflake pattern?  Have you made any of the ones listed here?  How is your weather this weekend?

Don't forget to link up to this month's Yarn Fanatic Party and enter the giveaway!

7 Quick Takes

This post contains affiliate links.

1.  This picture isn't perfect.  It's not professional at all.  There's plenty of technical problems.  But I like it.

2.  I am officially on Instagram now.  I haven't decided exactly how I plan to use it.  I do know that I want it to be somewhat unique from my other forms of social media.  I've already followed and then unfollowed a bunch of people because their feeds are a duplicate of what I already see on Facebook. Obviously, some overlap is inevitable, but variety is good!  Are you on Instagram?  How do you use it?

3.  Catherine is studying the North and South Poles this week.  That means we've been talking a lot about penguins.  The poor girl was super disgusted to learn that they use their poop to make their nests.

4.  Oi.  This book.  It is Dominic's current favorite.  It wasn't so bad the first hundred or so times that I read it.  Sadly, at this point I can barely stand it.  Can you relate?  I was a good mom though, I renewed it.  So we get to suffer through it, excuse me, I mean enjoy it for another three weeks.

5.  On a somewhat related note . . . Vteck, could you please make your trains easier for little hands to put together?  Ours is taped together now.  Dominic loves it, but he's a bit obsessive about keeping it all together . . . and he's one, so that's tough.  (Hey look!  There's even a picture of this on my Instagram!)

6.  I've been sewing up a storm.  I had a somewhat surreal moment last night.  I was wearing a shirt I made.  My husband was wearing a hoodie I made.  My daughter was wearing a dress I made.  My son was wearing pants I made.

7.  I think I might need this on a shirt.  Just sayin'.

I'll be sharing this post at Kelly's!

Crochet Dragon Hat

Look out, it's a Dragon!  Oh wait, it's a hat.

I think that this Dragon Hat is awesomeness personified.  I had seen the pattern by BriAbby ages ago and really, I mean really, wanted it.  Since the pattern is on the more expensive side (in my humble opinion) I waited for a sale.

I've crocheted three Dragon Hats so far. I started with my daughter's as a tester.  She loved it immediately.  The whole family loved it.  In fact, my husband even said he wouldn't mind having one -- which Santa delivered.  Eventually Dominic and I will need our own.

The pattern is well written and includes multiple sizes -- toddler to large adult.  I found that there were plenty of pictures to help with anything unusual.  The one negative is that these hats did take me awhile to put together.  There are a fair number of pieces to the dragon and then sewing everything in place does take a bit of time.  I will be making more of these though, it such a great hat!

Talk to me!  Have you crocheted a Dragon Hat?  Would you wear one?  Have you made a BriAbby pattern?

I love sharing my projects around the web, here are some places where I party.

WIPS: New Year with New and Old Projects

I have so many, honestly, too many, projects that are just shy of being complete.  I'm down to the last few rows of my Traveling Woman Shawl.  I love it, but it's the project that never ends.  I literally just need to weave in the ends for my Green Hat (pattern coming soon!).  I have half a wing to add to the Fairy Doll I'm crocheting for Catherine.  (Yes, it was supposed to be finished in time for Christmas.  Whoops.)

Isn't this basket for my WIPS beautiful?  Catherine gave it to me for Christmas.  I was very touched by her thoughtfulness.  I have to admit, it looks so much nicer than having a giant tangle of yarn sitting beside the couch!

I also have about five projects that I'm dying to start.  These droids are calling my name.  Additionally, I am mulling over how to tweak some existing patterns to make some characters from my daughter's newest favorite book.

That's just the knitting and crocheting; I've also been on a sewing craze!  I got some awesome specialty fabric for Christmas as well as some other sewing goodies.

My craft nook is the kitchen looks like it exploded.  Maybe it did and that's why it looks the way it does . . .  maybe?

Don't forget you can link up all your yarn-y projects at this month's Yarn Fanatic Party!  (There's also a giveaway where you could win a set of crochet hooks and a subscription to Happily Hooked, a crochet magazine!)

Yarn Fanatic Party #54

This post contains affiliate links.

This post is subject to updates.

Welcome to the first Yarn Fanatic Party of 2016!  I hope that you all had a joy filled Christmas and that the new year is going well.  As always, this is a place to share your crafty projects that use yarn, see what others have made, support one another, and sometimes even enter a giveaway!

I haven't been able to share much of my recent crafting here on the blog because so much of it involved Christmas surprises!  However, now that most have been gifted I can start sharing.  I do have to confess, there's more than one project that either had to get scrapped or isn't quite finished.  Whoops.

Features

I love seeing what you have created!  There were so many beautiful projects linked up at the last party.  It's always hard to pick a few to highlight.  I really love this Northern Lights Dress by Ginx Craft.

Jesse, from Our Side of the Mountain, finished an absolutely lovely blanket for her son.
