WIPS: Fairy, Cherry Twist, and Mont Royal

A Fairy, a Cherry Twist, and a Mont Royal walked into a bar . . . just kidding, they're in this week's knit and crochet lineup.

The Fairy is a super late Christmas present for my daughter, which I think I will simply turn into a St. Valentine's Day surprise.  The Cherry Twist Hat is the second I've made, I was so happy with the first one that I cast on another one last night!  The Mont Royal is a project that has been languishing in my WIPS box.  After last week's realization that I have a problem with works in progress and blog post drafts, I've decided to pick one of each every week and finish them.

I will be sharing this post at Small Things and Frontier Dreams.

It doesn't cost you anything extra, but it certainly helps me out.  Thank you for your support!

Crocheted Kitty Dolls

This post contains affiliate links.

These three little kittens were Christmas presents.  I have to say, I am pretty happy with how they turned out!

I used Simply Soft yarn for the dresses and a mystery white yarn from my stash.  (I'm pretty sure it was a Red Heart baby yarn, but I can't find the label.)  I did a basic ruffle (three stitches in every foundation stitch) using treble crochet for the skirts.

Here's Catherine with her Kitty from this morning.  Frozen nightgown and bedhead included.

I do have a crafting confession.  I am still finishing a few Christmas gifts.

Be sure to link up your projects at my Yarn Fanatic Party, and enter to win a $5 Amazon gift code while you're there.  (This party and giveaway will end January 11, 2015, but don't worry, another one will begin on Monday!)

Edited to add:  These items were for personal use only.

Works In Progress
or
What I've Been Working on This Week

Of course, I'm still working on the Chevron Afghan.

This week I made a quick baby blanked with some fluffy purple yarn I had on hand.  This yarn is awesome, it is almost like a minky fabric turned into yarn!  It is super soft; however, it's surprisingly difficult to work with!  It's almost like crocheting blind, because you can't see where you're supposed to put the hook!  I think that I am going to add a flower applique or two in one of the corners.

I wanted a super quick project and had just a small ball of this variegated purple yarn, so I made this cute headband.

I also decided to make a couple of hats with some Jiffy yarn I had on hand.

I'm having a Flash Sale right now over on my Facebook page.  New items will be added periodically this week.  Perhaps even the above headband and hats . . .   I'd love if you'd stop by! (Currently there some bracelets and a  pair of Yellow Earrings up!

W.I.P.

Today's Works In Progress

This week I've been working on a lightweight infinity scarf.  The color is a little off in this photo -- it is a light silver with just a hint of metallic.  The yarn is a lightweight bamboo yarn that is just sooo soft.

(I got an awesome light box for Christmas, so once I figure out how to use it AND keep the toddler out of it I will have AWESOME pictures to share!)

I also finally came back to my Chevron Afghan.  I really like this afghan but for some reason it just keeps getting bumped to the back of the line.  Last night I added an entire strip of purple.

WIP

Work In Progress

As usual, I have more than one project going, but I am just going to share one with you today.  This has been my main focus the past couple of days.  (Well, besides making a bracelet and almost starting a granny stripe scarf based on this pattern.)

This is going to be a long lightweight scarf.  I am using some of the yarn I purchased off of Ebay--it is really beautiful and super soft!  It is a pink washable bamboo yarn.  While it is a somewhat "free-styled" project, I am heavily basing it on this.

Works In Progress

While going through some of my yarn bins I realized that there are a couple of projects stashed away that never quite got completed.  So, what did I do?  I started yet another project!  Yesterday my darling daughter and I took a trip to a local thrift store and I scored some awesome deals on yarn!  (Even better, the yarn was secured in plastic bags, so it doesn't even smell like a thrift store!)

I am really loving how my Neon Flamingo scarf is turning out!

This is the beginning of a bulky wave scarf.  This one I am freestyling--I am making up the pattern as I go, so we'll see how it turns out.

Right now I am working on another cloche hat.  This time I am hoping that it will be the right size!

You can read more about my first cloche hat {here}.

I am using the same type of yarn, Caron Simply Soft, but this time I am using a hook two sizes larger.

Works In Progress

This week I decided to try my hand at crocheting with beads.  I am making a few different bracelets.
(Of course, I'm still working on the capelet and the afghan!)

Have you ever worked beads into a crochet project?  How did it turn out?

WIPS

Works In Progress

I am still working on all of the same projects as before--the silver capelet and the purple and grey afghan chevron afghan being the two most notable.

My favorite place to find new crochet patterns is Ravelry!  (That's where I found the capelet pattern!)  They have a huge database of projects that are fairly searchable.  I exclusively look for free patterns and have been amazed at how many there are available!  I also love that I have a "Favorites" page--I find it much easier (and more organized) that having a ton of bookmarks.  You do have to sign up to use it, but it's free so no biggie.  I'm not a very active member of Ravelry, but feel free to look me up if you're also a member!

I've looked on Pinterest a couple of times for patterns, but I just didn't like it very much.  It was too disorganized and haphazard.  Not that one couldn't use it as a great way to find patterns, it just didn't work for me.

Of course, I've also looked at pattern books at the library.  (I wouldn't be much of an English major if I didn't turn to the library, would I be?)  With the exception of Super Stitches Crochet, which focuses on stitch patterns rather than project patterns, the library books are a little outdated. (Super Stitches is an awesome book and I totally recommend it!)

I am curious, dear reader, where do you find patterns for your projects?  Online?  Books?  Michael's?  Blogs?  I'd love if you'd share!

Work In Progress

Since last week I pretty much have only worked on the capelet.  While I still have quite a bit to go, I can't wait to see what it looks like after blocking!

WIPS

Works In Progress

I am still working on my chevron afghan--although I didn't really add anything to it this past week.   I did finish my lacy red scarf!  I am waiting to get some nice pictures of it before putting together a post to show it off.

I started two projects this week.  The first being fingerless gloves and the other being a capelet.

The gloves started using a pattern from Raverly, but I kept getting frustrated
with it, so now it is entirely "freestlyed".  I think that the pattern designer either has
extremely tiny hands and wrists or I just didn't understand something.
I am not sure how this project is going to turn out.
If I don't like it I can always unravel!
I am using this pattern as my "starting point".  I am using a much lighter yarn
than the patter calls for, which means I have to make some adjustments.
Plus, I like to put my own spin on things!

WIP Wednesday

Work In Progress

A couple of weeks ago I showed you my purple and grey chevron afghan.  Due to general business, a week at the beach, lazing around the pool, etc, I haven't actually accomplished very much on it.

Since I can't seem to focus on just one project, after my great mail day on Monday, I decided to start another project!  This one uses a super soft bamboo and cotton yarn, which is so nice to work with!  I am using the same pattern as my lacy scarf and I think that this gorgeous red will look look fantastic.  It has a great sheen and drape.
