Infinity Loop Lace Shell Circle Scarf with Red Heart's Swanky Yarn

When I received this Swanky Yarn in Midnight Blue from Red Heart I knew right away that I wanted to make it into a fun infinity scarf. It took me a long time to decide what pattern would best show off this yarn's unique bling. After many searches on Ravelry I decided upon the Infinity Loop Lace Shell Circle Scarf by Accessorise.

The yarn is a basic yarn, but it has one cool feature that really makes it pop! It has matching oval sequins throughout. The yarn and sequins are dyed to match, so it is a unified color. The 62% Acrylic 38% Polyester yarn is soft to the touch. I was a little worried that the sequins would constantly be catching on the stitches, or just getting in the way, but they didn't. Every so often one would end up in an awkward part of a stitch, but it was always easy to adjust.

I used an I crochet hook, which is larger than the H hook recommended for the yarn, but after experimenting with the pattern and yarn that's what I thought showed off both the yarn and the pattern best.

The pattern is well written and easy to follow. There are a lot of pictures included in the pattern.

There are two lengths for this pattern. I made the longer version. At first I crocheted the chain for the shorter version, but it seemed really small. The larger version is perfect. I didn't crochet as many rows as the patter called for, as I was only going to use one skein, but I think it ended up perfect. I did add one row of single crochet at the very bottom. I think that it helped define the scallop edge a bit.

When I first saw this yarn I thought it would be perfect for my sister. She both loves blue, and I this shade would look great on her, so this scarf was a (slightly belated) Christmas gift for her.

A Crochet Pattern: The "Snowman Scarf" Using Quaere Fibre Yarn

Isn't this a fun scarf? I really enjoyed crocheting it! Working with this yarn was simply a pleasure. The yarn is lovely and soft, making it perfect for a scarf. (Or a host of other crochet and knitting projects!) My daughter, Catherine, has decided the name of this scarf is "The Snowman Scarf". I'm not sure why she choose that name, however, it has stuck. Yarn: Bifrost on Tweed from Quaere Fibre

Hook: F

Gauge: Doesn't really matter for this project.

Chain 36. (You can customize this pattern by chaining in any multiple of four.)

Row 1: In fourth chain (ch) from hook two double crochet (dc), chain one, two double crochet (dc). That makes one "fan". *Skip three chains (ch) and two double crochet (dc), chain one, two double crochet (dc)*. Repeat between ** until end. Chain three and turn.

Row 2: Crochet one fan (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in each chain one space of the fans below until end. Chain three and turn.

Row 3: Repeat Row 2 until you reach the desired length.

If you want to make this into an infinity scarf then slip stitch the ends together -- making sure to match up the fans and stitch loosely.

What I Wore Wednesday: 30 Weeks Pregnant

I haven't done a WIWW in, well, a really, really, really long time! I didn't do a Wordless Wednesday post this morning and for some reason a WIWW post seemed like a good idea. (Why is Wednesday such a popular day for blog link ups?) Of course, I'm 30 weeks pregnant and maybe it really isn't such a good idea . . .

So there's the obligatory terrible selfie shot. I almost don't look pregnant there. Here's a picture from last week to assure you that I am indeed very much with child.

Back to what I'm wearing today . . . I really do love this scarf that I made. However, I am considering turning it into an infinity scarf. (Please, I'd love you to hear your opinion on that either here or where the conversation started!) My thought is that I'd wear it more often as an infinity scarf. What do you think?

I'm also wearing my earrings from One Artsy Mama, which I love. (I reviewed them here. You can buy them here. Seriously, go buy them. They're fun, they're bright, they're cute, and they're super reasonably priced.)

As far as clothing goes I am wearing a basic maternity tee from Walmart and black pants from Old Navy (they aren't quite yoga pants, but they aren't quite not yoga pants either). Like I said, I'm 30 weeks pregnant, it's all about comfort.

WIPS

Work In Progress

My crochet cable scarf is coming along. I haven't quite felt like myself recently, which means that progress has been very slow, but there has been progress! I think that I finally like the pattern. I still think that it's a messy pattern to work, but it works.

Does anyone out there knit cables? I've been toying with the idea of learning to knit -- pretty much just because I love the look of cables. Are they super difficult? Once you get the hang of them can you knit them somewhat mindlessly?

W(s)IP

I've decided to admit to having quite a few projects going, otherwise known as

Works In Progress.

My purple and grey chevron blanket.

I don't know what to say other than it has severely stalled.

My silver capelet.

This one I at least have a valid excuse for not finishing yet. I needed to order more yarn. It should be here any day!

My pink lacy scarf.

This has been my main focus recently and should be finished soon.

My Christmas baby afghan.

Because I needed a project that moved more quickly than the lacy scarf I decided to make a blanket. (It makes sense to me!)

My (adult-sized) Elegant Hat.

This one is sized right, as opposed to the one that ended up being for my daughter, and really all that is left are the small finishing touches.

My Scrambled Egg Scarf.
This ruffled, not quite twirly, scarf's color just reminds me so much of scrambled eggs--in a good way--that I had to rename it.

That's it! Well, there might be a couple more things in my yarn storage area . . .

All Seasons Crocheted Flower Scarf

You might have noticed that I love crocheted flowers. (I've made numerous broaches, added them to hats and scarves, and even tried a lace pattern) They are just so cute!

I came across this pattern by a fellow blogger for a scarf, which is almost exactly what I was looking for this time! I made a couple of small changes. (I just had a slightly different vision than the creator--she did a fabulous job!) The biggest difference is that instead of having two pretty much separate chains between flowers I slip-stitched in each chain on the way back down.

(And, oh my gosh, I finally picked up some tapestry needles to help in the tedious job of weaving in my many unfinished ends. It helps so much! If you don't already have some get them!)

These all season flower scarves look great loosely wrapped around the neck a couple of times. Or you could use them as a belt or a hair band. In a future project I might try using crochet thread, since I liked the way my first project with crochet thread turned out!

And believe it or not, but all of these yarns are 100% cotton and I found them at my local Dollar Tree!

Girlie and Graceful Crochet Ruffle Scarf Pattern

Here's a fun crocheted scarf that I designed on a whim. At first I had wanted to make a fun crocheted twisty ruffle scarf like this one in my Etsy shop. However, I didn't think that I had enough yarn. (Twisty scarves use a surprising amount of yarn!) But I really wanted something with a little bit of a ruffle AND I wanted it to be long. I love long scarves.

So, this is what I came up with! First I made a skinny scarf using double crochet just a tad shorter than I wanted. I believe that both of the scarves pictured are less than 15 stitches wide. Then I double crocheted all around the skinny scarf putting two stitches in every spaces. I did a second row of double crochet all around alternating two stitches in one space, two stitches in one space, one stitch in one space. It was finished off with a row of single crochet. How's that for a super simple pattern?

This is an incredibly versatile basic pattern that I've done twice so far -- and I am sure that I am going to use it again! The ruffle can be just barely there, or almost twisty all depending on how many stitches are done in the same space and the number of rows. The main body can be super skinny or thick. It could be a winter scarf using a heavier yarn or an all year round accessory using a lighter specialty yarn. The possibilities are endless!

Crocheted Lace . . . Sorta . . .

I'm not really into a lot of lace. Sure, it has a time and place, and little touches of it can be quite elegant, but generally speaking it just isn't me. That means that I tend to shy away from crochet patterns with the word "lace" in the title. Plus, I don't really have any yarn or thread that would be appropriate for lace. (When it hits a rock bottom price at Michael's, or shows up at my Dollar Tree, or I stumble on some in some other way then I might pick some up!) However, while flipping through a library book I came across a lace pattern with violets in between lots of trellis work. Those violets looked awesome--and I thought that they were "me" so I decided to adapt the pattern to something that I would like.

My original idea was to take a couple of rows of the lace pattern and make a year round open and airy scarf/belt. I planned on using a cheerful color of yarn that should work for any season. I wanted it to be fairly skinny and long to allow for various wrapping, draping, and tying combinations.

Not having the finer crochet thread, I opted to use some of my Peaches and Creme pink and purple yarn. It is easy to work with and 100% cotton. First I worked some trellises (pretty much just chains and single crochet--dramatic and yet simple). They looked pretty cool, but it was a little too big open for me using the larger hook and yarn combination; plus, I really wanted this project to be skinny and if I had two rows of trellis, a row of violets, and two more rows of trellis it would be pretty wide. So I scratched the trellis work and opted for a row of single crochet to work the violets into. (That is one nice thing about crocheting--if something doesn't turn out how you'd like all you have to do is unravel it. No biggie.)

Then I began working on the violets. They are mostly constructed of treble puffs. I had to make a couple of changes to the pattern here and there to account for all of the differences (yarn, hook, trellis vs. single crochet, etc). Two of the petals are worked in the first row with the other three being worked into the next row.
