I experience this all the time with USB cables.
The key is that the hollow point of the plug goes UP. If you have a tower PC, UP is relative to the motherboard. So, if you are looking at the front of your computer, the hollow side of the cable, when plugging into the back, would go to the left. And if it doesn't slide in at first, just wiggle it to line up--DON'T TURN IT OVER!
